"Oak Island Mystery... Wish I'd stopped to visit" Oak Island by CdnJane

I don't have any pictures, nor have I actually been on Oak Island. I did drive past the road to Oak Island, between Chester and Mahone Bay. Since I've returned home I've been reading a book on the Oak Island treasure (Oak Island Secrets by Mark Finnan).... the buried treasure that has teased searchers for over 2 centuries. Initially discovered in 1795, the treasure has outwitted those who have tried to locate and recover it, frustrating the best efforts of even modern-day engineers and equipment. Millions of dollars have been poured into the efforts, and at least 6 people have died in the effort of reaching it. It's an amazing story - a booby-trapped treasure pit that protects a treasure that nobody knows what is truly hidden. Speculation has run rampant - initially thought to be pirate treasure, perhaps Captain Kidd's, but then there have been many other thoughts, including missing Shakespearean manuscripts or The Holy Grail. Whoever hid "the treasure" did a lot of work - tunnels leading to the shores which will flood with the tides, at tremendous depths. Despite all the efforts over the years, using pumps, and all sorts of secondary tunnels, the early engineering has defeated the treasure hunters. Will the secret ever be discovered? Who knows but it certainly seems to be something that will keep men searching for years to come.
