Warnings Or Dangers: Warning Warning Its Road Works Season
  • Tip Rating:
  • Perhaps this is a Transportation Tip and not a Warning but ... since it is officially spring. (So Mother Nature isn't aware of it, as the snowstorm rages outside!).. that means the other season has begun - ROAD WORKS!!!!
Well... King Street is open again in the Entertainment district! However I understand that there is road works around Yonge & Lawrence, uptown.... and I'm sure many many other places.... always some place on the 401.

Warnings Or Dangers: Nuisance, but not dangerous
  • Tip Rating:
  • Along King Street west, anywhere between John St and Simcoe St, you can encounter a man who brashly accosts you with the line "You want dinner before the theatre?" or "You looking for a place for dinner?" I think his name is Louie, and I gather trying to bring clients into a couple of the restaurants is what he gets paid for. Unfortunately, most of us find him rather a nuisance and annoying, and yes... somewhat intimidating. I'm not sure what restaurant he is working for now... he used to work for Hey Lucy's! just west of John Street on King. Those of us who work in the neighbourhood find us trying to dodge him, or even crossing the street. (One would think after 5 years he'd recognise us and realise that we don't appreciate his hustling. *sigh*) But he isn't dangerous, nasty or belligerant... just annoying... but I guess someone has to do the job. It really isn't our style - Torontonians just want to mind our own business.

  • I went out for a walk today and saw this sign hanging over the entrance to a covered walkway. It made more sense when I saw it again coming out of the walkway. Think they needed 2 signs... one on either side of the driveway!!!

Warnings Or Dangers: Idol Fever - Canadian style

  • Toronto - Line-up to See the Canadian Idol Competition
  • Line-up to See the Canadian Idol

  • As with the American Idol, there is a great following here in Canada for our version - Canadian Idol. The line-ups for appearances by the participants can get quite long, as can the lineups for those wanting to become a performer. This was a view in the summer of 2004 when the last couple of competitors were going to be appearing in the Toronto Convention Centre. I didn't join the line-up, I was in one for a Job Fair, but I did take the opportunity of taking a couple of pictures.

Warnings Or Dangers: Pay Attention to Construction Sites
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Toronto - Swing Construction Overhead
  • Swing Construction Overhead
  • by CdnJane

  • As you are walking along the streets, do heed the instructions of either police or construction workers who ask you to stop and wait for activities to finish. That could be as obvious as equipment - trucks, whatever - moving or you might have to look up and see cranes lifting items over where you could be walking. They do not want to endanger your life by allowing you to walk underneath. This happened to me and I took a couple of pictures while I was waiting. Sequence is left to right on top and then left to right on the bottom. (Oh, and another word of warning when you take a picture, be aware of what all you are getting in the picture - I didn't realise that I was including a bit of the sign for Condom Shack!)

The United Stateiens can be easily tricked. I have seen this many times. My brother has demonstrated this by using Canadian Tire money in border towns .....
