To be honest, I've never stayed at this motel, nor do I know anyone who has. However, it has been at the intersection of Yonge Street and Highway 7 (actually this is Thornhill not Toronto but hope you're not being picky) as long as I can remember... and, even if I'm not a mother, that's a long time. I think I remember reading a complimentary article on the place. What is so fascinating about the place to me, and many others, is the sign outside which always has some rhyme or comment. The innkeeper does not hold back on some of his opinions. As far as I know, those who have been taken to task by him do not take offence, and appreciate the creative abilities. AND, if just shows that someone is paying attention!
Unique Qualities: Really not knowing the caliber of the rooms, I'm not sure if they are soundproof against the noise of the highways. There is an outdoor pool. Should I find that this has a high rating with any of the travel organisations, I'll update this. It is close to a multi-plex theatre, SilverScreen Thornhill, and a number of restaurants and shopping. For someone not wanting to get far off the highway (either the 407 Toll road, or Highway 7) this could be an ideal spot.

I actually live near here, and while I haven't stayed here, I've had friends and family stay here, as well as knowing of business people that have as well. The location has been what has sold many of the people I've known - they like being so close to the 401, the main freeway through Toronto, the selection of restaurants in the area, and the subway right there, with no need to go outside.
Unique Qualities: From what I've seen of the rooms, they are quite nice and spacious. The southern view is now not so great as there is a complex of highrise apartments and business towers being built to the south. The North gives you a great view to see how far the city stretches. There is also a food court down stairs in the attached North York City Centre.

I have not actually stayed here, and have not known anyone who has stayed here since Marriott took it over. However, I did a tour of the property while working as a corporate travel counsellor, learning about the property to sell to our clients. Right on Bloor St it is at the junction of both main subway (metro) lines - Yonge line going North/South, and the Bloor/Danforth line going East/West. It is not very far west of the Don Valley Parkway for those coming by car. There is underground parking, and I believe Valet Parking. As I recall the hotel rooms start well above the ground floor, as there is the Hudson Bay store taking up the first several floors. I'd recommend this property primarily to people who want to be in the shopping district, for a special weekend in Toronto, or for those on business in the downtown core. While it is walking distance to the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) and other tourist attractions, it is in a pretty busy area for families. It is a Marriott property, and they maintain a good standard.
Unique Qualities: As I recall they do have a pool. Their location is excellent for those wanting to shop, go down to the theatres, for business travellers. The view may or may not be good, depending upon which way you face, and how many new towers have been built to block your view!

I have neither stayed here nor toured their facilities. However, this property seems to come up frequently for people staying in Toronto for a month or more. The company which owns 55 Bloor St E, and several other ones, appears to be reputable. Depending upon what you are looking for, this is an excellent location. I would not suggest a family stay here, if you want quiet, and escape from the city madness. However, if you want to be in the middle of everything, you will find this to be a good location. Certainly, business people who are going to be in Toronto for a while will like having the facilities of an apartment, not just a hotel room.
Unique Qualities: It is a new building, with lots of building going on around it... .I'm not sure how that will affect the noise level. All the features of a first class condominium apartment, and the high speed internet connection needed.

I found the hotel to be a nice, but standard hotel room. Maybe I've travelled too much on business, but it would have to have something really spectacular to make me find a hotel room special. It was big, the beds were comfortable, the service at the front desk was efficient and pleasant, and it saved us from getting up 2 hours earlier to get to the airport, worrying about a snowstorm. I would highly recommend this hotel to someone either just staying overnight between flights, or like us, having an early morning flight and being worried about bad weather, or arriving on one of the late night flights.
Unique Qualities: The dining room was excellent for dinner. We had the buffet and it was quite good. I don't recall any of the other amenities of the hotel, but again the location, attached to the airport terminal was very handy for us.

I have only attended banquet and conference functions here, so cannot attest to the quality of the rooms. It is an excellent location for business traveler who are working in the north part of Toronto. (For spouses/families visiting you are in walking distance to Fairview Mall, which also has a multi-screen theatre, and is now the eastern terminus of the new Sheppard Subway line. You can also take the #24 bus, fare $2.25, caught just about in front of the hotel, to the Don Mills station, no transfer needed for the subway.)
Unique Qualities: As well as the conference facilities, there is a dining room and a lounge for food. They do have an indoor pool and sauna, and fitness room.
