Canada - Where I'm Proud to Live

My Hero, Terry Fox, and the Marathon of Hope.

Terry Fox Running in Barrie Ontario
Sometimes there are pictures that you don't want to associate with any one community. This picture taken in July 1980, in Barrie Ontario, of Terry Fox is just one of those pictures. For those who haven't had the opportunity to hear about Terry Fox, let me share a little of his story. Terry, from a suburb of Vancouver, was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 18 and had to have his leg amputated above the knee. He wanted to help other cancer patients and decided to run across Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Unfortunately, on Sept 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles) Terry had to stop his run due to a reappearance of cancer in his lungs. The country mourned when Terry passed away on June 28, 1981, 22 years old.
Terry has not been forgotten and in the years since over 300 million dollars have been raised in Terry Fox "Marathon of Hope" runs within Canada and around the world. During Terry's run not only did he have the hardships of the running but he also spoke in many of the communities to many groups. I think we all will remember his infectious smile... and his dedication.

Wouldn't Steer You Wrong... EAT BEEF!

Eat Canadian Beef - Don't argue with him!

No bull... well actually this picture is a bull... but seriously... please don't stop eating Canadian Beef! Just a reminder to my fellow Canadians to ask before you order if the restaurant is serving Canadian Beef. Let's support our fellow Canadians.... please! Just remember, if you don't... this big bad boy might just be making you a visit!
