Off The Beaten Path: Displays are works of art

  • Harrods is NOT an unknown, off the beaten track site I admit, but I'm not sure if everyone goes into the Food Hall and looks at the displays. I was fascinated by the the Seafood display... it was a work of art.

Off The Beaten Path: Take the Tube to Kew Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • Leave the hustle bustle of inner London and go out to the gardens of Kew. Take the Richmond Line out to the Kew Gardens stop. Right around the tube station there are a couple of shops and restaurants. But continue walking to the entrance of the Gardens. Wonderful to enjoy... outside and in. When I was there, it was March and cool & rainy, so it was lovely to disappear into the warmth - steaminess actually - of the green houses.
We had gone there actually to spend some time before meeting an elderly relative, who lived down the road. Our enjoyment of Kew was even enhanced seeing some of his old maps and pictures of Kew at the turn of the century (1900) when my great grandparents had been married in the grand old hotel that had been on that site, and seeing the wedding menu. It was such a lovely location.
I returned and stayed at a B&B around Kew but I don't see it listed anywhere any more.
