Imperial Hotel London: Nice Neighbourhood and Alright Accomodation Compare Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I've stayed at the Imperial Hotel on a couple of occasions, and have found it to be an acceptable accomodation. It is not posh but handy to getting about in the city. I like the area, have always found it a great place to start out walks from. The room rate included a continental breakfast which was all I really like in the morning. When you book a single room, it was very compact and definitely a single room! It was a shock for me after North American hotels which are all big standard rooms - same for double or single! This was a single bed.

Unique Qualities: Just around the corner from Russell Square Tube station which connects you directly to Heathrowe with no changes. You just have to get your suitcase(s) down to the tube! It is or was right by an Airbus stop, if you prefer to take an outdoors route. Just be prepared to have lots of time in case of heavy traffic.
There is a casino but I've never checked it out, not sure what it costs to get in or any details.

Berners Hotel: Upscale off Oxford Street
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • It was my first trip to London and I was traveling with my parents, so we stayed more upscale than I can afford these days. The location was great for sightseeing and shopping. My memory of the room was a large "family room" for the 3 of us.
It was not as large as the posher hotels, but certainly upscale.
Because my parents paid, I've no idea how much it cost... and this was... uh 31 years ago, so prices have changed.

Unique Qualities: As with most of the British hotels, there was an included continental breakfast. They also served tea in the afternoon.

Lily: Functional, but wouldn't write home about it Compare Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Hotel Lily was near a cousin's home, so I first heard about it as a place where my parents & grandparents stayed when they were over. It was a basic hotel.
I stayed there on my last night in the UK, picked it for the price and the fact that I knew where it was.
Walking distance to the tube station (don't remember which one, mind you), and a continental breakfast was served as part of the price. The room was actually bigger than some of the single rooms I've seen in the UK.
The worst experience I had was that the fire alarm went off and I didn't know if they were testing it, or if it was an actual fire... nobody seemed to be reacting. A little off-putting, to say the least.
