Oban revolves around waterfront & railroad

Most of my trips to Oban have been via the train from Glasgow, and without spending a lot of time in Oban, moving on to one of the ferries to the Isle of Mull. So, for that reason, I am glad that the train station is right at the pier.
I have spent a few nights and days in Oban, albeit enroute for someplace else.
The train ride from Glasgow to Oban is about 3 hours, and if you aren't jetlagged from having just arrived in the UK from Canada and thus exhausted, then it is a wonderfully scenic ride. Otherwise, it is a great train ride to catch a couple of hours snoozing.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Great train ride from Glasgow, and ferry depot to the Hebridean Islands
  • Cons:A port town with its seedy bits

    That's a place very high on my list of places to visit, but so far have had to do with seeing it on the webcams.
