Idyllic Port City Steeped in History

by bscott1 - last update: Jan 24, 2005

From the top of the funicular railway
Bergen is a beautiful place, and many other tourists thought the same! There are a good many things to see here--one could easily spend three days in Bergen alone.

Its remote geographic location belies its history, as it was the capital of Norway in the 12th and 13th centuries. As late as the 17th century it was Scandinavia's largest city.

My favorite part was the maze of narrow streets, some as little as, maybe, 3 or 4 feet wide.
