A Sunny Winter Retreat

by RowanGBR - last update: Nov 8, 2003

They are EVERYWHERE!!!
Palm Springs is just a short drive from Costa Mesa, and a fun destination for a weekend jaunt. I visited with JennD in January 2002, when we made the most of the nightlife and outlet shopping, and then again in April 2003 for a completely different Easter Weekend break.

On the drive to Palm Springs we passed all the wind generators, acres and acres of strange mechanical monsters! I had seen these in guide books, and they really do exist!!
Desert Animals

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens

These pictures do belong here, honest!

Over Easter Weekend TracyNew72 and I went to The Living Desert in Palm Springs and had a great day wandering amongst the cacti and wild animals. Check out the "off the beaten path" photos.
Every Easter the park is free entry to the general public, and they give away an endangered plant - this year they were giving away pepper plants, ours are still thriving, and have three baby peppers almost ready to pick! (Not sure if they are edible, or what we would do with them if we had to eat them, but they are very plump and pretty!)

Pros:"beautiful, amazing scenery"
Cons:"the wind - just as the sun heats up the wind starts!"

Those wind generators are an amazing sight. I'd really love to visit that Dessert Zoo, what a great trek around. Great photos, obviously a lush area for a dessert.
