| | The story of Split starts in the 3rd century when Roman emperor Diocletian built his palace on this coast. Today, the remains of the palace are very much the part of everyday life, you can walk through its square peristyl, the basements, see the remains of the gates and walls. Peristyle is the most popular spot for the tourists and if you see it yourself you will know why. I walked through that part of Split many times and every time it looks amazing, it is simply beautiful.
Along the seafront, riva, there are many bars. They are usually full when the sun is out, no matter what time of the year it is. Everybody likes the advantages of the mild Mediterranen climate that we have here. At the moment there is work being done on riva, there is going to be a new pavement, but still provides you with lovely views as you can see on the photo above. That picture is taken while work on riva is in progress and it should be finished for the celebration of St. Duje, I mentioned that celebration in my tips. People here love music and there are traditional music festivals that have been popular for decades. Marjan, the hill that you can also see on the photo above, is often used as a motiv in the songs.
