  • My homestay family took me to eat okonomiyaki, what they described as a big "pancake"filled with vegetables, fish ,meat, whatever! This is huge! It's like a giant omelette and very delicious. Great for lunch, and cheap, too!

Check out the website I found on how okonomiyaki is made.

  • You cannot go to Japan and not have the sushi! When I went, I had tried it back home, and was willing to try anything new especially things that I had never seen before. Try it first, ask questions later, that's my motto!

What Can You Eat in Japan Besides Fish?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • Favorite Dish: Let's say you don't eat fish, and you're going to Japan. No problem! There are so many options, including the many varieties of noodles, yakitori (skewered meats), and of course your American franschise restaurants. But why not try the food native to the country you're visiting? There is shabu-shabu, where you can boil your own meat and vegetables at your table. There's also sukiyaki, which I love! I had this at my homestay family's house in Kawasaki City. I sauteed beef strips at the table, along with the vegetables. Then, to my shock, the meat was dipped in raw egg. Now, you must understand, my Italian grandmother used to give me raw egg as a breakfast drink when I was a child (sometimes with a shot of espresso!), so the egg didn't bother me. It was the meat/egg combo that threw me. But I tried it, of course, and after a few dips, the egg becomes a delicious marinade!

Well, I hope you liked my story, I don't know what the moral is, but you get the picture!!

You can get just about any kind of food in Tokyo, even Mc Donald's, if you would like! This picture was taken in the Roppingi area, where there is also a Hard Rock Cafe'.
