In 1997 I was awarded a trip to Japan by the Fulbright Memorial Fund, an organization devoted to increasing understanding of Japan and US through education. I seized the opportunity to apply for the award, hoping for the chance to go to Japan. Although my chances seemed slim--two teachers from every state would be selected to go-- I was selected to represent New Jersey and travel with teachers from all across the USA to Japan. I'll never forget when the letter arrived in the mail from FMF...and I opened it with trembling hands telling myself it would say, " We regret to inform you..." Instead it said, "Welcome to Japan!"
I met so many wonderful people, both American and Japanese. I hope to share some of my amazing experiences with you. |
| | I spent over three wonderful weeks in Japan seeing the sights, visiting schools, and I also homestayed with a Japanese family for a few days. Some of my sightseeing included: *Tokyo *Nikko *Kamakura *Hakone *Yokohama |
| | Here I am giving a presentation on Japan to my New Jersey colleagues. If you would like more information, check out the Fulbright Memorial Fund homepage.
There are opportunities for U.S. educators and administrators at all levels to travel to Japan. |
