Gates of Budapest

Hi! I have been a member for a number of months, but have not had a lot of time for editing anything here, due to the usual demands of a busy life. I just got myself my first pc for Christmas, and have YET to set up the scanner. Yet the countless (some subtle, some not so) hints '-) are pushing me to share something here.
I am a fourth generation resident of this world capital, so I felt entitled to use my screen name. Yet my family loved to travel, which we did as far back as I can remember. Maybe not far, but it was an easy transition from summer bungalows in the Catskills to annual vacations in the Province of Québec and New England.
My overseas travel started in college (university to you Europeans). Just a couple of weeks seeing Rome and Paris, and the countryside in between from the train. I felt immediately at home in both.
Through making a friend from central Canada, I had the opportunity to travel from Ontario to British Columbia, in some memorable weeks. I saw parts of Ontario not much seen by tourists, which seemed comparable to our Appalachia. I got to experience the vastness of the prairies and the awesome majesty of seeing the Rockies from them. I saw the verdant lushness of the Simon Fraser valley, and got to fall in love with Vancouver. From there I was guided to Vancouver Island, which was far west as I could go!!!
I later had the chance to spend the typical two summer months roaming Europe, mostly by train. I stayed almost entirely with locals, and so was exposed to other cultures up close. (I had a bout of needing to hear an American accent after a month, though!) I got the title for this from that experience.
I have also lived in upstate New York, Boston, Mass., and central California, mostly for educational purposes. So I have seen a good chunk of this nation, even if just from a plane '-).
For the last decade, most of my travels have been to the Caribbean (a region recognized recently by VT, thanks guys!). It is not a widespead itinerary, but a nice way to spend some time in the winter :-)!
My summer project is to get the scanner set up and find the attachment I'd need to share my old pics and slides here. So cross your fingers, folks, and wish me luck. Happy trails to all of you!

After a hiatus of several years, I am home again! I am still busy settling in, but I have returned to my own apartment, finally having finished a university degree which helped to tie me down for the past four years. Many of the family photos are gone, but I look forward to traveling again, and creating new ones! My thanks to those of you who made such kind comments and good wishes to me through this page.
