    Getting TO/AROUND: by public transports.
FROM / TO VERONA , there are basically two options to reach the “Veronese” side of the Lake (from Peschiera del Garda to Malcesine)

Train : Trains run from Verona Porta Nuova Station to Peschiera del Garda and Desenzano del Garda. See the www.trenitalia.com for timetables and costs. Both Verona and Peschiera del Garda (as well Desenzano on the Brescia side) are along the main train line Milan-Venice, and most of the trains stop in both stations.

Bus: the public company of the Verona Province APTV runs frequently to the lake. The strongest line is the one arriving up to Riva del Garda (far north, in the Trentino little corner of the Lake), and covers all of the eastern shore of the lake.

See line 62/64 timetable. This line stops in Peschiera del Garda train station, too (well, at least most of the runs). So, if you are arriving by train from west (Milan, Bergamo or Brescia), you can step down the train here, avoiding to go eastward to Verona to come back westward to the lake.

To Garda (the town), there are also two more lines: 63 and 65-66

All of the Bus lines of APTV start, in Verona, from the square in front of the Verona Porta Nuova Station, then pass at the central stop of Piazza Cittadella (near the Arena -now temporary in C.so Porta Nuova because of the works going on in Piazza Cittadella) then head to their destinations. The APTV company merged i 2007 in a new company named ATV, so beware that the buses may have the old or the new name. The extra-urban ones are blue or blue/gray, while the local one are orange or green/orange.

TO/FROM the Verona Catullo Airport (VRN), there is a useful shuttle bus every 20 minutes right outside the airport to the Verona Porta Nuova train (and bus) station. See the timetables here. Fixed price 4.5 euro luggages included. Time needed around 15/20 mins. The shuttle tickets can be bought in several places, but also directly from the bus driver, without extra price

RYANAIR customers: be aware that Ryanair goes mainly to Brescia-Montichiari airport (VBS)... and that's a different story......

To reach the Brescia's (west) side of the Lake from Verona, the best way is train to Desenzano, then BUS reaching Riva along the west coast

Getting TO/AROUND: A initiative of the Consortium "Lago di Garda è…" (a consortium of promotion and tourist marketing that operates on the east coast of the lake, the "Olive Riviera")

Once Free of charge, now (2007) at low cost (Thanks to VT member thumperbunny for the update) it offers clients of the accomodations travelling by air a shuttle service that connects the hotels, apartments and camp sites along the east coast of Lake Garda from Verona Catullo (VRN) and Brescia Montichiari (VBS) Airports up to Malcesine.

You can book directly with your chosen accommodation.

Of course, not all hotels, etc. are members of this consortium, but if the one you like is in, it may be a real plus: straight to your hotel!

For more info, see the link below.

*update* I recently found a link to a travel agency (maybe they are the one organizing the service?) that seems not to request you are on a special accomodation for the low cost transfer. But i do not know anything more. Take a look at their site.

Transportation: a F.a.q.: Bergamo airport to Garda Lake.

Getting TO/AROUND: The Bergamo Orio al Serio to Garda Lake is a matter that often pops up in the forums.

The problem is that there is an easy connection to Bergamo itself, but Bergamo IS NOT along the main train line Milan-Venice that has 2 stops on the southern side of the lake (Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda).

So, going to Bergamo first (that may seems simple), you'll need to take a train to Brescia, and from there another one towards Venice to the lake, with a good chance, if you are not close to the 2 stations (the lake is very long) that you need a bus ride too (see my Torridel benaco Transportation Tip "Public transports to the lake from Verona" http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/4c02d/228a3/9/

If possible and matching your timetables, better to take a bus to Brescia instead.

Prices are low (maybe less than 20 euro total, but the journey becomes very long.

The best way, if you are going to a hotel or accomodation place taking part of the "Lago di Garda è…" Consortium would be a direct shuttle from airport to the hotel! 1 leg instead of 3 or 4!.
See my "Low cost Bus trasfer from airport to hotels, etc." tip on the mentioned page. They do mainly the Verona and Brescia airports, but claim to go to Bergamo, too. I don't have any direct info on that service, so any feedback will be appreciated.

    Ciao
    Francesco

Transportation: To the Arena operas (and back) by public bus

Getting TO/AROUND: Many people from the lake wants to attend one of the Opera shows at the Arena di Verona, the ancient Roman Amphitheatre that the modern man discovered to be such a good place for music shows.

Regular buses stop at around 8 PM, but the opera ends late, or very late. Hardly before midnight.

There are many travel companies organizing bus tours to the opera, and the bus will be waiting for you.

I just discovered the public bus company does something similar, and probably cheaper (regular bus fares apply).

You can go to Verona by regular bus (from Riva, Malcesine, Brenzone, Torri, Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, Peschiera) with the 62-64 line .

For the way back to the lake, a bus will depart 30 minutes after the end of the Arena performance (whenever it may happen to end) from Corso Porta Nuova, a few hundred meters from the Arena.
    Easy. Safe.
The link in the website below will direct you to a PDF file of the service.
You must book it, though, by phone tel. 045 7255833 or by e-mail info@atv.verona.it

This is now 'Low cost bus transfer' at €12 per trip (July 07), certainly up to Malcesine. It still looks like good value compared with taxis.
