Getting TO/AROUND: by public transports. FROM / TO VERONA , there are basically two options to reach the “Veronese” side of the Lake (from Peschiera del Garda to Malcesine)
Train : Trains run from Verona Porta Nuova Station to Peschiera del Garda and Desenzano del Garda. See the
www.trenitalia.com for timetables and costs. Both Verona and Peschiera del Garda (as well Desenzano on the Brescia side) are along the main train line Milan-Venice, and most of the trains stop in both stations.
Bus: the public company of the Verona Province
APTV runs frequently to the lake. The strongest line is the one arriving up to Riva del Garda (far north, in the Trentino little corner of the Lake), and covers all of the eastern shore of the lake.
See line
62/64 timetable. This line stops in Peschiera del Garda train station, too (well, at least most of the runs). So, if you are arriving by train from west (Milan, Bergamo or Brescia), you can step down the train here, avoiding to go eastward to Verona to come back westward to the lake.
To Garda (the town), there are also two more lines:
63 and
65-66All of the Bus lines of APTV start, in Verona, from the square in front of the Verona Porta Nuova Station, then pass at the central stop of Piazza Cittadella (near the Arena -now temporary in C.so Porta Nuova because of the works going on in Piazza Cittadella) then head to their destinations. The APTV company merged i 2007 in a new company named ATV, so beware that the buses may have the old or the new name. The extra-urban ones are blue or blue/gray, while the local one are orange or green/orange.
TO/FROM the Verona Catullo Airport (VRN), there is a useful shuttle bus every 20 minutes right outside the airport to the Verona Porta Nuova train (and bus) station. See the timetables
here. Fixed price 4.5 euro luggages included. Time needed around 15/20 mins. The shuttle tickets can be bought in several places, but also directly from the bus driver, without extra price
RYANAIR customers: be aware that Ryanair goes mainly to Brescia-Montichiari airport (VBS)... and that's a different story......
To reach the
Brescia's (west) side of the Lake from Verona, the best way is train to Desenzano, then
BUS reaching Riva along the west coast
