Palmerston North is situated aprox. 2 hours drive from Wellington (NZs capital) It is the 6th largest city with a population of some 75,000(aprox).
It is a city with education being a focus with Massey University and Internatinal Pacific College (mainly Japanese) playing a large part in the city.
These institutions bring a wide range of nationalities to the city.
Also there is the NZ Dairy Research and Linton Military Army Camp all play a part.
Palmerston North ( there is a Palmerston in the South Island) also has a limited International Airport with several flights per week to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.,
(UPDATE) 2011 and now for a few years it's still called Palmerston North International Airport, but saddly International travel from here has gone. Still daily flights to most places in NZ..
It is also known as a major player in stock car racing with the NZ Team Champs in February, booking out all accomodation in the city and surrounds.
