Ming Tien Food Court At Taman Megah, PJ |
Shopping here is also very convenient with the many large shopping centres & complexes complete with indoor multi-level carpark. Yes, living in PJ for extended periods can perhaps make a person become somewhat lazy, because you never have to walk too much around here .. plenty of buses everywhere, taxicabs, & even the Light Rail Transit (LRT) goes all the way into Kuala Lumpur in no time at all .. & the fares for all transportation here are very cheap!
Most people in PJ drive around a lot though, because many from here work in KL but live in PJ - the many highways cut journeys short, but the more convenient it is for you, you'll find that it comes with a price because some areas will charge a toll fee (although it's not exactly expensive either).
If you like bargains, PJ is full of early morning & nightmarkets all over the place. Morning markets are more suitable for getting groceries & there is usually one in most areas ... the town comprises of many different residential areas named after numbers (e.g. Section 14, Section 12, SS2, SS3, etc.). Morning markets are typically from about 6am-9am, & nightmarkets are from 6pm-10 or 10.30pm. You can get anything from nightmarkets - groceries, clothing, good local food/hot snacks, accessories, bags, CDs/Tapes/Videos, household items, fresh produce, the latest fads, etc. all at low prices & you can still bargain for lower prices!
The most popular nightmarkets are held on Mondays in SS2 main hawker area - the biggest nightmarket in this part of town, Thursdays in the other part of SS2 nicknamed 'Cheow Yang' area by the locals as a prominent restaurant by that name has been there for ages, Tuesdays in Section 17, & Sundays in Section 20 (SEA Park area).
Petaling Jaya is also the academic town of Malaysia as this is where most of the top colleges/institutions of higher education in the country are located, & probably the highest amount of schools, alongside the capital city. Therefore, one can meet anyone from all over the country easily here as many students come from 'outstation' (i.e. other states) to study here. Thus generating more places & activities for young people here.
However, there is something for people of all ages here, interesting to note too are the parks dotted all over the town - they are tailored to suit all ages, with special features such as 'stone massage' paths, skateboarding/in-line skating course, outdoor badminton courts, exercise par course with instruction boards complete with diagrams on different exercise methods, & structures built to support the exercise activities, etc.
I'm not quite done yet, but guess I've crammed more than I should on an introductory chapter. Hope some of the information here might be helpful in some way towards your visit here.
Have a wonderful visit, & 'jumpa lagi' ('see you again').
