There are 2 magnificent palaces in the gardens and were built for Prince Eugene of Savoy by the famous (apparently) architect, J.L. von Hilderbrandt. The lower palace was built in 1714/16 and the upper palace was built in 1721/23. Around the gardens are several blue posts which are about 5 feet (150cm) tall. These are photo points and you can rest you camera on top of them to take photos of the palace

Totally unexpected, as I was walking around Vienna, I noticed a number of these 'stars' in the pavement. I don't know anything else about them, they are just there.

They may look like an explosion in a paint factory but the Hundertwasser flats have been transformed into very desirable places to live. The flats are issued to people by the government and they cannot be bought. The project took place between 1982 and 1985 to complete the 50 apartments. There are also a few souvenir shops and an old red UK phone booth there.

The War Museum in Vienna is an absolute must not just for those interested in war, but for thse interested in history in Europe. You need to check to the details for all their displays but there is everything there, including a display about the Austrian Navy. My 2 favourite exhibits were the Enigma coding machine used by Germany in the Second World War and the car which Arch Duke Ferdinand and his wife were assasinated in whilst visiting Sarjevo. This triggered the First World War. I have built a travelogue of photos from the museum

Vienna is full of magnificent buildings and the Opera House is just another fine example of the architecture in the city.
