It's more years than I care to remember since I visited Vic Falls. The locals call it Mosi-oa-tunya which means the Smoke That Thunders.
They were discovered in the 19th century by explorer Dr David Livingstone.
I have yet to see video or photos that can do justice to what is surely one of the most awesome natural sights in the world.
One of the tour options is a flight by light aircraft or microlight over the falls. This is called "Flight of the Angels". It took it's name from a quote from Dr Livingstone who wrote of the falls "..scenes so lovely that they must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight". |
Politcal Change Since I visited the Falls in 1977 as a child, the political situation has changed immeasureably. I cannot give you any advice about travelling there today or about how safe it is.
I remember being taken to the Victoria Falls hotel from the airport by coach with an armed military escort.
One thing that will not have changed is the falls themselves. If you get the opportunity to see the spectacular Mosi-oa-tunya, take the chance. |

I didn't fly over the falls and seeing all those photos makes me think more and more that I missed something. |
