The greater Moncton area consists of the City of Moncton, the Town of Dieppe, and the Town of Riverview.
Riverview is more of a "bedroom community" for the other two.
A recent study found that residents of Moncton were the fourth happiest in the country, tied with Kitchener, ON. This study, sponsored by the Canadian Inst. for Advanced Research and released through the Univ. of British Columbia, was based on almost 100,000 responses to StatsCan's Ethnic Diversity Survey of 2002 and the General Social Survey of 2003. The top three were Saint John, NB, Quebec City, QC, and Charlottetown, PEI, in that order.
In May 2007, MoneySense Magazine published its second annual list of Canada's Best Places to Live. It ranked 123 communities with a population greater than 10,000, based on things like weather, real estate values, income levels and unemployment rates to discretionary income, crime rates, and signs of prosperity. Moncton joined Fredericton in being in the top 10 of that list, taking 7th place. |
