"TOLEDO, ESPAÑA (SPAIN)" Toledo by Canuck5

Toledo Travel Guide: 680 reviews and 1,806 photos

The city of Toledo currently has a population of around 70,000.

It is situated on the side of a mountain, alongside El Rio Tajo (the Tajo River). One of the many distinctive landmarks in Toledo is El Puente de Alcantara (the Bridge of Alcantara).

The Romans occupied Toledo between the 1st and 5th Centuries. They were then invaded and expelled by the Visigoths in the 5th Century, which saw the arrival of the first Christians. They, in turn, were later wiped out by the Muslims, who were later wiped out by the Christians. Fortunately, things are much more peaceful today !

We spent about a day and a half in Toledo. With a rented car, it was relatively easy to get around in. We attended a Craft Festival that was going on at the time, and saw as much of the city as we could fit in. Would have liked to have spent a little more time though.

Castilla de la Consuegra

On the way to or from Toledo, you should stop and see the castle and windmills at Consuegra.
