Restaurant Name: Garcia's
This is not the place to eat if you want to experience the real Mexico. It obviously caters primarily to American and Canadian tourists. All of the signs and menus are in English, and everyone we saw eating there was Anglo-Saxon. However, after walking all morning through the streets of Matamoros, being hot, sweaty, tired, and hungry, the familiar air conditioned refinement of Garcia's offered a welcome respite. The service and decor were first class, with prices to match. We thought the flat rate of $8.45 U.S. dollars for lunch was a bit expensive compared to other restaurants in town. The lunch included several choices, from tacos to seafood.
A plus was that we were entertained while we ate with live music (American standards no less) expertly played on an electric keyboard. Our second story window offered a good view of the street below. Garcia's also has one of the finer gift shops in the city, with hand-made items from all over Mexico.
