Nuevo Progreso Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 17 photos
Nuevo Progreso is a small but bustling village that seems to have been built especially for tourists. It is just 5 miles south of the Texas towns of Weslaco and Mercedes via FM 1015. It may be the perfect place for a first time visitor to experience a Mexican border town. This is not the typical Mexican village, but the streets are lined with small malls, curio shops, clothing stores, dentists offices, and pharmacies. Many Texans as well as retired "snowbirds" from the northern U.S. and Canada come here for prescription drugs and dental work because of the savings, although old timers tell us that the savings aren't what they used to be. Nuevo Progreso is no doubt the favorite Mexican shopping destination in the southern Rio Grande Valley.

I can almost hear the street entertainers. I love the music of Mexico . Good page!
Very good descriptions. Amazing picture "A Beautiful Little Mexican Girl" :-)
Hey Mister... Quieres Chicle? Can I dance for my dinner? Do you play Guantanamera? Love the page!
Hello again. Lovely Nuevo Progreso pages. I love Mexico. The locals are always smiling and happy. Adios. Lori.
Nice page. Mexico is really a fascinating country! And I love your motto... :)
This looks much nicer than your typical border town. What a nice looking place and you have great tips about it. Makes me want to visit.
great tipe on Nuevo Progreso page. Thanks.
Nuevo Progreso is a great place to browse the market. Darling photo of the child..wise of you to ask the mother before snapping a photo. Enjoyed comment about the Rio Grande. Honest restaurant tips. I, too, would park on U.S. side & walk. Excellent job.
An other great page. Sounds like a cool day trip, and good tip about parking & walking over! We like to take the side street too, you get to see the real town and people. :o)
I guess, that is 'Progress; on la Frontera? ;-0 Nice look at what lies on the other side of the stream!
