Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada, was established in 1895 to protect, preserve and showcase a natural wonderland of soaring peaks, sparkling waterfalls, and clear, deep, glacial lakes. The centerpiece of the park is Upper Waterton Lake, deepest in the Canadian Rockies. There are many smaller lakes, surrounded by majestic mountain scenery. This is wild country, the haunt of grizzly and black bears, moose, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, bald eagles and much more. Peaceful, quite and awe-inspiring, It offers some of the most spectacular hiking trails in all of Canada.
Waterton sits along the Canadian border with the United States and Glacier National Park, Montana, which was established in 1910. Since 1932 the two parks together have comprised the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the first International Peace Park in the world. |
