"Sutton, Braxton County, West Virginia" Sutton by Stephen-KarenConn
Sutton Travel Guide: 7 reviews and 29 photos
Sutton, established in 1824, is the seat of Braxton County, West Virginia, along the Elk River. The population was 1,011 at the 2000 census.
I stopped for the night here during a road trip through West Virginia. Although this is obviously not a wealthy town, it is located in a very scenic setting, steeped in history and the people are as friendly as any you will ever meet. There are also several recreational and historic attractions in the area that are well worth a visit.

It should be noted that Indians never burned Sutton. They were long gone before settlers built the town. Elk River is the longest river entirely in WV.
Hi Stephen, Carol and I are taking a road trip (Buffalo to Key West) next week and I think we'll stop in Sutton enroute to Asheville. Definately will try the Elk Motel. Hope all is well with you and Karen...Tom
West Virginia, like everywhere else, really looks a lot better with summer lushness than when I visited in March! Great vignettes on this picturesque little town.
Americana at its best. Sutton Lake seems like a small version of KY Lake. Loved the 1881 Braxton Co. Jail! Fire history was fascinating. That motel reminds me of my childhood vacations. Good use of "extra" Photos.
