"Padre Island National Seashore" Padre Island by Stephen-KarenConn

Padre Island Travel Guide: 25 reviews and 78 photos

Running 110 miles along the South Texas Gulf Coast, Padre Island National Seashore contains the largest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world. The National Seashore can be easily reached by causeway from Corpus Christi, Texas, 31 miles away.

This is North Padre Island, seperated by the more highly developed South Padre Island by only a few narrow channels. However to reach one from the other (over land) requires a 208 mile, five hour drive.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Wonderful wild, open, undeveloped subtropical beach, marsh, and dunes.
  • Cons:Not much shade.
  • In a nutshell:A paradise for nature and wilderness lovers.

Another excellent page! I am happy such a big strecht of land along the Gulf is preserved in Texas! It is still allowed to drive on the beach though, these Texans just can't imagine life without a car....

Another great page, Stephen! Padre Island looks like a great place for a bit of relaxation! Nice pic of the Spoonbill and now I know where those Pelicans came from last September when I was driving around Alberta!! I was shocked to see them so far inland!

Hi folks, wonderful Padre Island page. I can't believe you're allowed to camp on the beach, that must be wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Penny

Padre Island, a ranch? Well, I learn something new each day. Wind surfing looks great. Beautiful photographs and a great start. I'll have to return later for more wonderful information.
