The Little Miami Scenic Trail runs through the heart of Loveland. This 72-mile paved hike/bike/skate/ski/horse trail follows an old railroad grade along the banks of the LIttle Miami River from Springfield to Milford. A linier state park, the trail is open year round. It is a favorite resource for outdoor enthusiasts of all types.

The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a part of the much longer Ohio to Erie Trail, which spans the state of Ohio from Cincinnati to Cleveland following lands formerly owned by railroads and canals. When complete, this trail will connect four of Ohio's metropolitan cities, a dozen large towns and numerous small villages - all done on easily accessible, paved trails, that are completely separated from highways and automobiles.

Bicyclists, hikers, equestrians, and other groups such as bird watchers, cross-country skiers, and nature lovers have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Ohio as the trail weaves its way across the state. Nowhere is the trail more lovely than in Loveland.

  • Theme: Kayaking/Canoeing

The Little Miami Scenic River, named for the Miami Indian tribe which once lived in this area, is the first designated state and national scenic river in Ohio. It is very popular with canoeists kayakers and fishermen. However, you can also enjoy the river just by following the Little Miami Scenic Trail which parallels it's banks. In a few spots picnic and recreation areas can be found beside the river.

Equipment: Canoes and Kayaks may be rented from several businesses in and around Loveland.

    Sports Travel: Lake Isabella
  • Tip Rating:
  • Theme: Fishing Trips

This beautiful 28 acre lake, set in a 77 acre park, is operated by the Hamilton County Parks Department. The lake is stocked weekly with 500 pounds of fish, including bass, bluegill, carp, trout and catfish. There is a modern boat house, a snack bar, a shop for fishing equipment, and boat rentals are available.

Entrance to the park is $2.00 daily per vehicle, or only $5.00 will get you an annual pass, which is good at all 15 developed parks and 4 conservation areas operated by Hamilton County. You won't find a better bargain than that. However, it you are going to fish at Lake Isabella, that will cost you $8.50 per day. Children under 12, and seniors (Golden Buckeye cardholders) fish free.

Catches of up to 20 pounds of fish are not unusual, and a single 27-pound catfish was recently caught here.

Great page! great name for a town! Do you think the people are happier there just because of the name! Human Psychology can do strange things to us at times!

If the main line of the Baltimore & Ohio used to pass through Loveland, then I have probably been through there on the train, because I used to ride the B&O between Chicago and Washington. Also I did my basic training near there, at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
