Niagara Falls, New York - The American Falls

Before we knew each other, Karen and I had both been to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, but neither had yet visited the American side. So when we went to Niagara Falls for the first time together we decided to focus on the American side. I'm very glad we did. Although I had spent four days in past trips exploring Niagara from Ontario, Canada, I did not know what I had been missing by not also visiting the American Falls.

Niagara Falls (Composed of the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls) is on the Niagara River, which divides New York State, in the U.S.A. with Ontario, Canada. The River is the primary outlet for the four largest Great Lakes - Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie - as they empty into Lake Ontario, on their way to the St. Lawrence River and the Atlantic Ocean. Collectively, these Great Lakes are the largest depository of fresh water on planet Earth. And Niagara Falls is undoubtedly the most famous waterfall in the world.

"It's just as well you're speechless.

No one can hear you above the roar."
