"Williston, Williams County, North Dakota" Williston by Stephen-KarenConn

Williston Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 25 photos

Williston, a town of about 12,000 people, is the seat of Williams County. It is located on the high dry plains of far western North Dakota, just east of the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.

Lewis and Clark were the first men of European decent to visit the the spot where Williston now stands. They spent the winter of 1804-05 here during their famous trek to the Pacific. Today Williston is a regional shopping center in one of the most sparcely populated corners of America. For hundreds of miles around, the town is surrounded by wide open spaces and huge ranches which produce cattle and wheat.

Williston is also the home of Williston State College and the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.
