Sublette, in southwestern Kansas, is the seat of Haskel County, a perfect square which is said to be the flattest county in all of Kansas.

Farming and ranching form the economic base for the county population of less than 4,000 people. Most of the county's 578 square miles are covered with grain crops, cattle feedlots and pastureland.

The city of Sublette was named for a fur trapper, William Sublette.
