Dighton Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 4 photos

Dighton and Lane County is a farming community in western Kansas. The local economy is bolstered by two cattle feeding lots and a swine feeding operation. Lane county is also home to Sharp Brothers Seed Company, nationally known for its production of grass seed. Wheat is the main crop, but corn is also grown here. Since 1960 oil activity has been important to the county.

The Kansas Legislature defined Lane County's boundaries in 1873 and named it for Senator James H. Lane. The county experienced a boom in the 1880s with the arrival of the railroad. However, the population has been in decline in recent years. At the 2000 census there were 2,155 people who called Lane county home, with 1,138 of them living in Dighton, the county's only city.
