Pocahontas, which bills itself as "The Princess City," is the seat of Pocahontas County in northwestern Iowa. It is named for the Powhatan Indian princess, Pocahontas, who according to legend saved the life of English Captain John Smith in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607.

    I was amazed when we drove across country how you can't see ANYTHING from the main highway. Then you miss the gems...like the statue of Pocahontas...in Pocahontas...in Pocahontas County...hmmm
