San Jose is the capitol of the small Central American country of Costa Rica. It is also the country's largest city, with a population of more than 307,000.

Although it is in the tropics, San Jose is situated at a high elevation in Costa Rica's Central Valley which gives it moderate spring-like temperatures throughout the year.

Most visitors to Costa Rica come to visit the many national parks, pristine mountains, and glistening beaches. However, San Jose also has much to offer in the way of historical and cultural significance.

Costa Rica is definitely Pura Vida - we are thinking we would like to go back to the Pacific Coast at Guanacaste! 10 days was NOT enough............

Obviously you saw a great deal on your excursion given time constraints because of the distance from the port. I know its a challenge because we cruise quite a bit. You made San Jose look very appealing with all there is to see there! Nice page!

Stone Spheres made me realize that there are many things that exist and we do not know their origin. It is intriguing to note that these mysterious objects are found in Costa Rica.

Enjoyed this page on San Jose' Stephen. That sure was a long bus ride though. Good thing it was cooler up in the mountains. Also thanks for checking out my Fuengirola, Spain page.

Very comprehensive useful page on San Jose. When I was in high school, I used to collect real butterflies as well as buy those commercial framed butterflies in Malaysia. So your shopping tip on butterflies caught my full attention :)

Fascinating stone spheres! I especially enjoyed the tips about the cemetery, National theater [the smoking room in particular], and National Museum [Fort Bellavista]. Looks like a worthwhile side trip, Stephen.
