The first inhabitants at Maui
were the Marqeuses, they came in 750 A.D. in their dubble hulled sailing canoes, they brought their best hunters, their families, their animals their crops and their plants.
After the Margueses the Tahitians came and brought with them their
godesses and their religion.
In November 1776 Captain Cook discovered Maui, and soon after came the traders, the Whalers and the Missionaries. At the height of the Whaling era (1840 to 1865) more than 500 Ships anchored at
Lahaina. After a bloody battle in the Iola Valley, King Kamahameha took up resident at Lahaina and the Kings decendants reigne over the Island untill 1872 .In 1893 the Monarchie was overturned and one year later the Republic of Hawaii was founded. In 1898 Maui was annexed by the United States, and in 1900 Hawaii became the 50 th State in the U.S.
The Arrival after an 35 minute flight from Oahu went smooth,it was an very beautiful short trip and the view leaving Oahu was absolutely fantastic, nice airport
not too big , all very easy.
We are now ready for our day Tour.
So here we are , our Bus driver Merle (the Pearl) is ready to take us on our Tour, and a Tour representative was available to answer our questions.
Merle (the Pearl) was a great driver and a very good Tour Guide, and Merle was funny and his knowledge
about the Island and especially about the plants and flowers on the Island was remarkable.
Thanks for taking us and bring us back safe Merle. This page is under construction
- Pros:Maui was a beautiful Island and it was very natural.
- Cons:The road was rough.
- In a nutshell:The rough road made it a more exciting and interesting.

Thanks for this... I will enjoy Maui next week hopefully.
Thanks Hansi, for visiting my page. In a week I fly over the big pond for the NH-seacoast meet. Looking forward to meet you and Lori. Cheers Peter
Hey Hansi, looking at your tips and photos puts me in the mood for another trip to Maui. I can hear the islands calling my name.
A good introductory page to the island of Maui Hansi. Looks very nice.
Hansi, looks like you've got some nice pics of Hawaiian flowers, too! I'll be checking in again to look around. I was particularly interested in your Arnhem page (I'm really interested in WW2 history). Thanks for the ratings! See you in the forums.
Awesome Pix and info Hansi. Maui was a wonderful day trip and Merle did a great job as our driver/guide.
Hansi, I was working on my Big Island pages today when I saw your need for warmth and sunshine, so I am here visiting your Maui pages, great tips, Kat
Great job, Hans, especially the Road to Hana. The shredded pork sandwich sounds yummy. Super photographs which I've grown to always expect on your pages. Love the New photo of you & Lori plus tribute to tragedy.
Nice page!
Your excellent page reminds me of a trip to the Haleakala a few years ago; Thank you for sharing !
