Pretoria Travel Guide: 394 reviews and 700 photos
The Voortrekkers were very
important in Pretoria's history . Andries Pretorius was the victorious leader of the '' Boers '' in the war agalnst the Zulus. The founders of the South African Republic were honoured by a colossal Monument located on '' Monument Hill ''as a reminder of the courage and determination of the Voortrekkers.
This Monument honours Paul Kruger, who was the last
President who tried to prevent the
Boer Republics from being taken over by the British. The Boer war from 1899 to 1902 after that was the
end of the South Africa Republic and end of the British ruling over South Africa.
This Union building according to the south Africans are the most beautiful Goverment buildings in the world. The Union building has a half round shape
The two wings at the sides represent the Boerish and the English part of the population.
- Pros:A very historic City with great Monuments and buildings.
- Cons:none
- In a nutshell:A fantastic place to visit

Thanks for your interesting story, Hansi! I am now trying to find out more about the Boer war ...
Interesting page on that historical town! I have learned a lot in your page, thanks!
I learned a lot from this page. We sang about "Marching to Pretoria" when I was a kid, but I never knew what it meant.
I've only driven thru Pretoria & suprised at how pretty it was, Jacaranda's in full bloom. I wonder how many of these monumnets to the old regime are still present in Pretoria as the present govt changed a fair few things but you can't change history
Another Great Page! I just got back from Prague, and nice hair! Regards Jasen
OH your pages have taken me back to my childhood visits to these places, wonderful. I love your SA pages.
Indeed, that Paul Kruger Monument looks great. Interesting historical places and info.
Looks like a place that honors its past. Great pics.
Nice presentation of Pretoria and its impressive monuments. Greets.
me old City - now part of TSHWANE City Metro , Pretoria is the City Centre ;-)))
