My week in Ko Samui was like a concert in the rain without adequate facilities . . . I was expecting something a bit more idyllic - like I found on Ko Samet. I guess you could say that I violated the first rule of travel - To check your expectations at the door! Mornings on the beach were my favorite experience while on the island. It’s such a contrast to the evenings. I hate to generalize, but the average traveler I encountered while on the island was an 18 – 22 year old male awaiting the next Full Moon party on Hat Rin. While it was fun to have a pint with the fellows and talk about their travels and plans, the 4AM drunks wrecking their mopeds outside your door tainted the experience a bit. The drunks and the scams were not to be found in the mornings.
