Off The Beaten Path: Hungerharke besides the A5

    • Besides the highway A5 near exit "Zeppelinheim" is a monument which remembers the Berlin Airlift in 1948/49. During the cold war the Soviets blocked all ways to Berlin by land and water. To avoid that the west part of the city would also be taken over by the Soviets the Western Powers decided to supply Berlins inhabitants with the necessities of life by air. The monument showing eastwards symbolises the three air corridors to Berlin. In Berlin-Templehof you find the same monument, just showing westwards. The people called the airplanes "Candy Bomber".

    I only see the monument by passing by. I don't know if you can really "visite" it.

    • Sometime ago I walked down the Berger Strasse till the end for the first time ... I was really surprised to find a wonderful park with many flowers and a part of this park (no idea about the name) is a Chinese garden.

    Wonderful! I guess also another hidden beauty in FFM :-)))

    I guess the nearest tube station is Merianplatz, but I'm not sure ...
