Join in the fun on the streets, and you will leave revived in body and spirit. Pledge Nature Reserve is a haven of tranquility, and is only 200 meters from Main Street. The Knysna Oyster Festival in July is a celebration of leisure, sport and outdoor adventure, and the Nederburg Arts Festival in September celebrates the artists and performers who make up Knysna’s rich and diverse cultures. The Town itself hosts many arts and crafts galleries and shops. Enjoy coffee under the oaks at a local coffee shop and you will catch snatches of the many languages of the world being spoken around you |
Knysna is a town that grew as a result of its beauty. The lagoon, the amphitheater of mountains that surround the town, and the gentle weather, all attracted the earlier visitors, and continue to attract visitors today. From the quiet beauty of its evergreen forests to the soaring beauty of the Heads, Knysna is beauty in abundance. Knysna is a unique birding destination because of its numerous habitats - water, marshes, fynbos, grasslands and forest species can all be seen within a relatively small area. More than 280 species are listed, and include Knysna Loerie, five species of kingfisher, numerous raptors and the elusive Narina Trogan. The Knysna forests attract visitors for hiking, cycling, horse riding or simply exploring. The timber industry was once the life blood of the town. You can still see the artists and craftsmen who work with dedication to produce the finest furniture in the land |
