Tsitsikama National Forest

Situated only an hour from the city of Port Elizabeth and just 15 minutes from the N2, St Francis beckons.

The climate is temperate with warm summers and mild winters. A quaint shopping center, restaurants, an excellent golf course, bowling greens, tennis courts and now squash courts cater for the visitors needs. Two magnificent gentle sloping beaches provide safe bathing, hobie catting, wind surfing, surfing and rubber ducking, as well as some of the finest rock and surf angling on the East Coast. The Bay itself is world famous for its waves and is frequented by top surfers from all over the world.
Nature lovers can lose themselves in the natural beauty of the area, with pristine hiking trails through nature reserves, along a dune river system with its unique landscaping or along white expanses of beaches. Bird life is abundant with over 200 species recorded in the area.
The Kromme River is navigable for 10 km, and twists and winds its way down to a magnificent marina where the gracious white-walled thatched homes are reflected in the quiet water of the canals, providing a similar ambiance to Venice.Tourists, and particularly hikers, from all over the world visit the area which is known for its rugged, unspoiled coastline – a photographer's dream. The region has many wonderful scenic hiking trails of which it is justifiably proud, though its greatest asset remains the world-renowned Otter Trail. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that remains indelibly imprinted on the mind.

We only had time for a short hike over there, but it's indeed a beautiful area to explore.
