NB! The views and reviews that I have made on this page are my own! They are of true experiences and are a TRUE portrayal of what I have experienced.

DO NOT HARASS OR VERBALLY ABUSE ME BECAUSE YOU FEEL THAT THIS INFORMATION IS INCORRECT!

I have suffered abuse from members on this site simply because of my own views.

Instead of attempting to defend something that is not defendable, take the time to NOTE that I HAVE made postive comments about Penang on this page AS WELL AS my travel tips for Penang.

One thing to keep in mind before you leave a comment: Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one!

What's yours?

I took a night bus from Bangkok to Penang Island (connected by bridge) to begin my tour in Malaysia. Malaysia is a multinational country, of mainly Malay and Chinese and Indian. There are Chinatown and Little India in every large city.
Although an officially Islamic state, Malaysia is different from the Arab countries in many aspects. For instance, you could get a bottle of beer in Chinese or Indian restaurants, if you are willing to pay a higher price than neighboring countries. Also, you can find pork in Chinese restaurants. However, Malaysians are very respectable to others. Eating pork in presence of Muslims is considered inappropriare and should not be done.
Penang is famous for its backpacker friendliness. There are lots of cheap hotels and backpacker hangouts. If you like this kind of culture, this is a place to be.

Penang is famous for hawkers food. At night, the streets are filled with food stalls. In my opinion, they are better than restaurants and cafes, but there are places like the Coconut Island Cafe that is a local hotspot for tourists and foreigners visiting Penang..
