Doing the North-South thing...

by amares - last update: Sep 27, 2003

Hoan Kiem Lake, in Hanoi
I spent 4 incredible weeks traveling throughout Vietnam--planes, trains and automobiles! (avoid the automobiles) It was by far the most beautiful and "travel-friendly" country I've yet visited. For a first visit, I think at least 4 weeks is a must if you are going to tour the country.

Aside from meeting great people, one of the really nice things about hopping from city to city is the diversity of activities. I could just "chill" on the amazing beaches in Nha Trang, check the temples arount Hue, take a tour of the totally amazing Halong Bay and--this is true of any Vietnamese city--eat some of the most amazing food anywhere.

Pros:"The people, the scenery, the prices, the food, the beaches"
Cons:"The cost getting there; having to leave"
