Tiny Towns Across America United Sometimes it seems like the smaller the town, the more patriotism you can find. Flags are displayed everywhere.
Merrill, Oregon is the kind of town that if you blink you'll miss it. A flag this size is very visible, it is almost bigger than their water tower! |
| | Illigal Immigrants The starling is a bird that has managed to infiltrate North America and multiply like mad. Over the past one hundred or so years they've managed to spread from sea to shining sea. I haven't ever seen one in Alaska though.
Their favorite perch are trees at the parking lots at a local Wal-Mart. Their favorite food is food that humans leave behind in parking lots so maybe now that Americans are low-carb crazy the starlings will diminish in number.
Some people love starlings. Other people aren't so enthused because they have caused problems for native species, and can't cause a big mess when they congregate. But, if people in the United States didn't leave so much food around on the grouds for them to eat starlings would have to resort to living like wild starlings and we wouldn't see them so much! |
