How to plan a vacation

1. Selecting your destination.

I am certain that no place on earth can be without any interest, so it's all up to your answer on this: what do you want to do in you vacation. Then of course travel costs limits your choices.

2. Read as much as you can about the country or city, from travel-books and encyclopedias, or even from your "World history" from school can be helpful. Searching the internet gives you additional info. Check the maps for railroads, road-standards, shipping-docks and mountains.

3. Accomodation. Check the availibilty with a tour-operator, they offer good accomodiation, and they often give you a discount when ordering both flight and hotel. Otherwise, an internet search and calling the hotels to check standards gives you additional choices. Make sure that you get a written conformation of your hotel-booking. Are you an adventurer? Just go, and find yourself a place to stay when arriving... backpacking....

4. Use your new knowledge to organize your given days. Try to find the truth about your country by looking outside the normal tourist-routes, but make sure to not miss the most important sights, even if it's crowded. Check for places of historical, geographical, religious, environmental and traditional interest. What do local people do in their spare time? Folklore?

5. Remember safety! Don't enter unsafe areas, consult with local people or your embassy before you enter!

6. Climate? Dont pack any clothing before you know what climate your will experience..... Dont come to Norway in winter without proper winter-clothing.... :-). You can save space in your bag if your hotel has a washing-machine...

7. Hire a car? Special conditions for hiring? Is your licence valid? Remember to book a childseat in the car if you have children. Useful link: http://www.ams-link.co.uk/carhire.html

8. Bring all your paper-work with you. I have experienced that my print-outs gave me a lot more information after arrival, information that became very helpful. And dont forget you passport or visa.
