Training in Seattle

Nightfall from my hotel room window
In May 1994, I was sent to Seattle for two weeks of training. I stayed at the Best Western Executive which is advertised as being in the shadow of the Space Needle. The classes started on Monday, May 16th and ended Friday May 27th. I was supposed to fly in on Sunday, but my flight was delayed because I was at the funeral of my 2.5 year old grandson in Pittsburgh and wasn't back in time to make the flight. So I actually arrived on May 16th at the end of class. That first night, I ate at the hotel with some of the other class members.

Classes were from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm

I spent most of my time after class visiting places in Seattle.

Tuesday May 17th, I went to Pioneer Square and Pike Street Market and took the trolley along the waterfront.

Wednesday May 18th I went to the AAA and got maps and visited the Aquarium.

Thursday, May 19th, I took the Monorail into Seattle and bought gifts. Then I had dinner on top of the Space Needle,

Friday, May 20th, it was rainy and so I spent the night in my hotel room after having dinner at McDonalds.

Saturday May 21st, it was Seattle Maritime Week, so I went (via public bus) to visit the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and the Carl S. English Jr. Gardens. Then I got on another bus and shopped at a fair in the University District
Wake from the boat
Sunday May 22nd was a long day. I got up about 5 and took a bus tour up to Anacortes where we got the ferry, stopping at Friday Island, and then going to Butchart Gardens and Victoria. It was Victoria Day. Then I took the high speed catamaran back to Seattle.

Monday May 23rd, I spent recovering from Sunday, and just did some laundry at the laundromat.

Tuesday May 24th I got myself by public transportation (my expense account didn't run to a car) to Reston and took the dinner train up to a winery and back.

Wednesday May 25th I took the boat to Tillicum Village where I had the best salmon I've ever had in my life. I vowed never to eat salmon again because I'd never get salmon that good again.

Thursday May 26th I went to the zoo, but I was really too tired to stay long.

Friday May 27th, I flew home.

My one disappointment was not getting to see Olympia Rain Forest, because I didn't think I'd ever get to see one of the rain forests that I'd heard so much about. Fortunately in 1996 I got to visit Costa Rica and saw the rain forests there.

Beautiful city, beautiful page! Very good info as well! Personally I loved Seattle because of location, atmosphere, old district, hundreds of small cafes, pubs on each corner... etc. etc. I'd like to see stork's nest atop the Needle :-)))

$31-40 is a lot of scratch for a merely satisfactory meal and $80-120 for a merely satisfactory hotel. The fact that folks fell for that joke about the space needle falling over shows how gullible folks can be.

Thx for visiting my Seattle page. I visited yours too and loved the photo from Space Needle restaurant. Also I saw which part of my comments you may disagree ;-) More photos to come?
