James Island is on the south side of Charleston Harbor. It is separated from Charleston proper by the Wapoo River and Elliott Cut. There are two bridges over the Wapoo River from Charleston, and there is additional access by bridge from John Island. In the picture, there is a sailboat race between the island in the middle ground and James Island in the distance.
