Chart of Georgetown

MM 403.0 Georgetown Anchorage

The Georgetown harbor has room for a lot of boats and many of them anchor there. There are apparently some private moorings in the harbor now. If the mill is operating and the wind is wrong you may get a dirty residue on the boat.

The town pretty much pulls in the sidewalks on Saturday and Sunday.

Equipment: Use care in setting the anchor as the bottom is soft mud.

Town has a dinghy dock at a small dock west of the town clock (which is on the Rice Museum). There are hardwares stores and restaurants near the dock. Post office is 3 miles away.

We have not used this anchorage, so the marker on the chart is for the Boat Shed Marina.

Directions: Leave the ICW opposite R40 and proceed up the Sampit River to town north of island. Anchor in front of the clock tower

Marina from docks - Georgetown

Marina from docks

MM 403.0 The Boat Shed

We usually stay at The Boat Shed which is a marina.

Nice people - let me do e-mail in the office.

They have about 4 places for transient boats.

No pay phones.

Rest rooms aren't locked.

Next to the marina at the shrimp docks is a good place to buy fresh seafood.

Equipment: It was $1/foot and that included electricity.

The picture shows the dry stack storage building for small power boats from the gas dock. The little brick building in the foreground is where the bathrooms are. There are also outdoor storage areas.

Address: 18 South Street and James Street

Directions: 403.0 first marina on starboard as you come into the harbor.

GPS coordinates 33 21 45 N 79 16 45 W

MM 406.0 Belle Island Yacht Club

I've never been here, because we couldn't get in - the water is too shallow for us. Some friends are there now and they have to wait for high tide to leave. It is fairly cheap at 80 cents a foot.

Directions: South of Georgetown on Winyah Bay MM 406.0
