I have not taken one of these tours, but I understand that guides touch on area history, telling stories about the grand houses and their owners. Some offer gossipy accounts of celebrity visitors and movie stars.

Boating

Beaufort is almost surrounded by water, so there are many different on the water options for getting to or seeing Beaufort. Although we've come to Beaufort by boat, we have not tried any of these options. Some ideas to consider are:

Pontoon boat tour from Coosaw Marine Dock. Wed. and Sat. 10 am and by appointment. Where the Ashepoo, Combabee and Edisto Rivers converge to form the largest pristine estuarine preserve on the East Coast. 3 hours.

From Hilton Head take 278 to 170 North. Follow SC 170 North across Chechessee River bridge and Broad River bridge. After the Broad River bridge, turn RIGHT on SC 802 East and follow to intersection where 802 and US 21 South merge. Turn RIGHT, still on 802, and cross high bridge and continue to light (Walgreen’s and Publix on opposite corners). Go straight through light continuing on SC 802 East (also called Sams Point Road) for 6.7 miles to the bridge that crosses Lucy Point Creek. Cross the bridge and ACE Basin Tours marina is immediately to the LEFT at the far end of the bridge
