Snow

Oberlin is in northern Ohio near Lake Erie. It is cold with the wind sweeping down from the lake, and it snows a lot there. Think Lake Effect. The Oberlin Fire Department has a Storm-Sentry storm tracking feature that allows them to track heavy snow, freezing rain, severe thunderstorms, and tornadoes. The program will show where the storm is, where it is going, and when it will get there so that weather warning systems can be activated.

Some of the students from the south couldn't really deal with the cold and snow. I remember one boy from Mississippi who had only a light overcoat for cold weather. He froze his first winter.

The snow is piled up in the parking lots, and sometimes I've been there at graducation when there were still piles of snow lying around from the winter.
