"Bird Watchers Galore" Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge by grandmaR

These brilliant red flowers were blooming in December in the grass near the visitor's center.

Most of the information at the visitor's center is about the animals. The sign below says:

"Watching wildlife can be a lot of fun. Many wildlife creatures are elusive and wary so you will need to move slowly and quietly. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the best time to see wildlife. A pair of binoculars is helpful.

"Even if you do not see the animal, you may see signs of its presence such as tracks, scat droppings or feathers. And listen..in nature you can hear a symphony of sounds."

The birds and animals listed on this sign (starting at the top left and working left to right) are:

Top row: Black Duck, Gadwall
Second row: Boat tailed grackle, Black-necked Stilt, Brown Pelican
Bottom row: Sanderling, Carolina Salt Marsh Snake, Yellow-bellied Slider

Outstanding introduction. Wildlife refuge, natural setting, lovely photographs, and informative narratives makes for a topnotch page.
