Bald Head coming from Atlantic

Mile 308 - Bald Head Island (Nov. 6 & 17, 2000 and April 7, 2001). Bald Head island is surrounded by shoal water such as Frying Pan Shoals. The marina is VERY susceptible to SE winds and may be unsafe if the winds are strong from the SE. Also it has become a Yacht Club and is now very high priced.

Construction machinery and cars-early morning 2004

The grocery which was formerly right in the marina and convenient albeit overpriced has been relocated to 2 miles away so you have to rent a cart to get there.

There are no cars except service vehicles on the island. They are apparently brought to the island by this tug pushing a barge. All the vehicles on the barge are subject to salt spray all over them.

All access to the island is either by ferry or private boat.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Wild beaches - isolated
Cons:Everything comes by ferry.
In a nutshell:Isolated vacation spot
