The Island Bar & Grill: Formerly Evans Seafood Restaurant

This restaurant is right on the water just across the bridge to Piney Point. There used to be other restaurants along Piney Point Road, but this is the only one left

When Hurricane Isabel destroyed the physical building. When it was rebuilt, it was not the same. It is now called the Island Bar and Grill (although the credit card slips still say "Evans Restaurant" on them, and the GPS still calls it Evan's. The Island Inn & Suites is next door.

We recently went back because the restaurant was on the "Savor St. Mary's" list. This is what the Savor St Mary's website had to say about it.

The Island Bar and Grill recently replaced local landmark restaurant Evans, so it comes with a lot of history but with a new attitude under manager Bree Whitlock and chef Leo Dilling. Chef Dilling attended the Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Ottawa, Canada, and then worked in restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area. He moved to St. Mary’s County several years ago and along with a handful of other recently arrived chefs, kicked the local restaurant scene up a notch or two. The chef has settled on a menu that maintains its local and regional roots with an emphasis on fresh local seafood. The restaurant overlooks St. George Creek and has an ample pier for boat tie-ups.

Favorite Dish: The SAVOR ST. MARY'S Dishes were:

Appetizer
•Smoked Bluefish Dip with Garlic Olive Oil Crostini
•Grilled Sirloin Steak Strips, Local Herb Chimichurri Sauce, Papas Bravas (Crispy Spiced Potatoes)
•BLT Salad - Baby Iceberg Wedge, Local Cherry Tomatoes, Pan Seared Pancetta, Blue Cheese Dressing

Entrée
•Rockfish with Local Sweet Corn Sauce, Basil Oil, Ratatouille of St. Mary's County Vegetables

I got a mussels appetizer (half price on Thursday) and the Savor St Mary's Entre. Both were very good and the mussels came with wonderful bread. The rockfish was a huge rockfish steak. The potatoes were too salty and I didn't eat much of the vegetables. I also had a coconut cupcake for dessert which was an appropriate size.

Bob got the fried scallop basket and he liked that and brought some of it home.
